If you´re reading this right now then you´re probably where I was 6 weeks ago when I was shopping around on the internet in search of the perfect garden shed.

I´d never bought one before and probably won´t ever need one ever again unless I move, which at this time in my life (a very young 59) is highly unlikely.

So I get myself online and follow my sons advice by using a price comparison site to compare and contrast.

Price comparison site for sheds? Such things are great for finding the best mortgage or insurance premium but garden sheds? Back to the drawing board.

My journey took me to the search engines where I discover a number of flashy looking websites and three took my eye; one for their range, two because they looked like the companies knew what they were doing and thirdly their prices appeared palatable.

The first did not have a telephone number, the second did have a telephone number but was unable to offer any advice, nor did they appear to care.

So having drawn a shortlist from the website of the third company Gardens4Living, I gave them a call to understand more about the type of shed which was best for me.

My shortlist looked good but I was still fighting with some of the terminology; Shiplap, OSB, Tongue ´n´ Groove (sounds like something I did in my younger days), Apex, Pent and Styrene Windows.

I explained to the chap on the phone that I was in search of a potting shed which I can also use to store some garden implements. I gave him the dimensions and we discussed a couple of options, eventually settling on a 2.4m2 Potting Shed.

I was able to place the order over the telephone and I chose to include installation as part of the service.

Within 24 hours of placing the order I had a delivery/installation date diarised and I was well on my way to getting my new potting shed.

One sticking point, the new shed was due in 10 days and the base had not been constructed in readiness for its installation.

I´m very proud of my high flying Executive IT Sales Management son but I know his limitations with a spade, concrete and a spirit level. He´s a man who likes to keep his hands clean so I turn to my neighbour whose staple contents on the back of his van always include a pile of sand or some other kind of builder´s rubble.

As quick as I could ask, the ground was dug, levelled, filled, whacked (that´s a formal builders term for being bashed), concreted, levelled (again) and eventually allowed to set. The next morning, a beautiful shed base, good enough to walk on!

Following a call the day before to confirm installation, three burley men knocked on my door (something else that reminded me of younger days, only joking!) to deliver and begin construction of my shiny new potting shed.

Having commented on the quality of my shed base, the men commenced work on the installation whilst I took control of the tea making and plates of biscuits.

The next stage of the story is a bit of a haze. Having provided one cup of tea, I popped down the road to pick up some flowers, dropped them into my friends and by the time I got back my potting shed was complete.

And there you have it.

The whole experience has been a pleasure from ordering, delivery, installation and most of all using it today. The shed has been positioned perfectly to allow the best hours of sunshine into the shed, my plants are protected during the winter months and the benches provide the perfect workstation for planting new seeds and nurturing them through.
